Parish History & Mission

St. Francis was founded in 1994 and consecrated as a place of worship in 1995 by Bishop Terence Kelshaw. We started out in a mobile unit at our location for a few years, and then worshiped at Vista Verde cemetery's chapel while our building was being built in 2000-2001 (talk about being surrounded by a great cloud of witnesses!).

As Episcopalians, we are part of the Episcopal Diocese of the Rio Grande in The Episcopal Church which is itself part of the global Anglican Communion. Anglicans as we are called are the third largest group of Christians in the world!

As a church family, we consider ourselves just that - family. Jesus came to bring all manners of people into God's family. And here we are, God's family. Like a family we support one another in hard times and good times. Like a family we learn and grow together. Like a family we all chip in and help with chores. And like a family, we have a lot of fun. We especially have fun as we share God's love with one another and with our family, friends, and neighbors.

The spiritual tools we have to help us grow in God's love are the Sacraments and the Way of Love.

As Jesus taught us in three stories he told (Luke 15), God's family isn't complete unless everyone's there. So we are holding a seat at the table for you. And we can't wait to meet you.

We acknowledge the First Peoples of the land we live, work, worship, and walk on – land that has never been ceded or sold. We acknowledge their continued survival and spiritual connection to country and surrounding land, sky, water and sea. And, we pay our respects to their Ancestors and Elders past and present. These include the Pueblo, Apache, and Navajo peoples/nations, including the Sandia, Jemez, Zia, Santo Domingo, and Santa Ana Pueblos.
