Vestry meets with Rio Rancho Police Department to discuss safety and preparedness
The topic was a serious one, active shooter preparedness. Meeting with two officers from the RRPD, the Vestry sought to learn about how to prepare and pre-plan to mitigate harm in the event of a shooter at church. Office Pat spoke about the brain's ability to function under stress. He emphasized that simple awareness of our surroundings and simply caring enough to ask about something that seems strange or off could save lives. He helped us to be aware of our exits and hiding places, and advised us to keep all entrances except the main red doors closed and locked during services. The Vestry is currently working on a plan to make the parish safer. But the most important part of the plan is YOU - simple awareness of others around you and a willingness to care may save lives. That's something we as disciples of Jesus can and should do.

Betty Harrison,
Junior Warden |
Betty Harrison became a member of St. Francis in 2018 when San Gabriel closed it's doors and Bishop Hunn brought the congregation to St. Francis. She grew up in the Catholic church. Betty met Rev. Rhonda from San Gabriel Episcopal church and found her to be very comfortable. Rev. Rhonda invited Betty to come to Sunday service at San Gabriel and she then started worshiping there. Rev. Rhonda was very instrumental in having Betty received as an Episcopalian. Betty and her husband visited other Churches but found that they were not welcoming or community oriented like San Gabriel and St. Francis.
